Friends, I’ve got some exciting news! I recently partnered with stationery giant Pentel of America for my first brand collaboration! Pentel tools have been a staple in my studio since my university days, and to receive the opportunity to collaborate with their team has been a humbling experience, especially because of the events leading up to this career milestone. Short story time:

Leading up to this collaboration, I was out of work for roughly three months. I had an amazing first quarter—I was super busy with back-to-back commissions, then suddenly everything dried up, and it dried up very quickly. Despite my best efforts to maintain relationships with previous clients while pursuing new opportunities, my own strength wasn’t and still isn’t good enough. But as a firm believer in Jesus Christ, I chose to lean into my relationship with Him, and look to my Lord, who is and always will be the One who opens doors of favour and opportunity. I took my concerns to Him in prayer and went to bed every night with peace in my heart and mind, knowing He is with me and I am with Him.

Soon afterward, I was contacted by two friends with the same answer to my prayer. My sister in Christ reached out to say she had been praying for me, even though I hadn’t mentioned I needed help. Then my brother in illustration, Chris Koehler, reached out and said he needed my help with his brand partner, Pentel (are you crying yet? I might be lol!).

So, I dedicate this collaboration to my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, because without Him, I can do nothing.

Now this is the kind of fun I’m talking about! Today marks my first collaboration with lettering artist and graphic designer Mark Serrano of Toronto. Both Mark and I are NBA Creator alumni, we found each other online through the program, and quickly realized this was the collaboration meant to be. We wanted to combine both our signature styles into an epic portrait of our favourite basketball player. While we could have chosen any of the greatest like Air Jordan, Black Mamba, Magic, The Answer, but I think it was more than obvious Vinsanity Vince Carter was our ONLY CHOICE as two native Torontonians.

Big shout out to the homie Mark Serrano for lending his immense talent to this piece. His custom typography frames Vince’s portrait perfectly, and just SHOUTS greatness. Check out Mark’s Behind the Scenes shots on his half of amazing here. Thank you Mark!

Sam Singh x NBA x Microsoft

This right here is BIG NEWS! I am ecstatic to announce my latest career milestone client is none other than the NBA and Microsoft Canada! Thank you Jesus! Throughout the year, I will be working with NBA Canada through the NBA Creators Program, to design four new illustrations inspired by the 2024 NBA Season, using the technology behind the Microsoft Surface.

The inaugural piece below is a stylish event poster highlighting the Golden State Warriors homecoming game against the Dallas Mavericks. Golden State’s last match up didn’t go to well against the Mavericks, so I thought to design a hype poster for their anticipated rematch (spoiler warning, Golden State won that night, and I’m sure it was all thanks to my poster of course LOL!).

HUGE THANK YOU to NBA Canada for extending this incredible opportunity to me. I am truly honoured to be apart of this experience, it has been a dream of mine to design sports illustration, and I could not be more grateful to my Heavenly Father for the gifts, talents, and abilities He has blessed me with, and for the out pouring of love and support from my family, friends, and fellow illustrators whom I share this community with. Thank you all so very much ❤️

Career Milestone

2023 marks the first time in my career my work has been published in print! This may seem like an ordinary accomplishment for an illustrator, but in a digital age, this is quite the treat to see my work carefully bound together in St. Louis Magazine, and is now sitting on shelves!
